Carl Rogers, the founder of the Person Centered Approach, held the view that, "Counselling is to provide an opportunity for a client to work towards living in a more satisfying and resourceful way."
To this aim the counsellor will not tell you what to do, rather will work with you in addressing your concerns and where appropriate, will provide gentle challenge and encouragement to enable change.
This support helps in gaining clarity and encourages personal growth.
Counselling can, at times, be difficult and requires commitment. This commitment is reciprocated by the counsellor.
A counsellor will offer you a real sense of being heard.
